Between the depreciation of its currency, the Covid-19 pandemic and the explosion that ravaged Beirut on 4 August 2020, Lebanon has sunk into an unprecedented political, economic, social, financial and health crisis. The rate of population living in multidimensional poverty has increased from 42% in 2019 to 82% in 2021. The health system, largely privatised, has been hit hard, depriving many poor people of access to basic health care. Faced with this health emergency, PSF Switzerland has been asked by a local partner to enable some 100 families in the areas of Bauchrieh, Bourj Hammoud and Dora, in the north-east of Beirut, to access medical treatment. Following a new on-site evaluation of the project in January 2023, two additional partners were identified and integrated into the initial project, which will continue in 2023 and 2024.
