Madagascar

Since 2011, Pharmacists Without Borders Switzerland (PSF Switzerland) has been supporting healthcare centres in the Mahajanga region of Madagascar, by promoting patient access to quality care and strengthening the skills of healthcare staff.
Over the years, the project has laid the foundations for greater autonomy for the healthcare structures supported, thanks in particular to strategic orientations that are bearing fruit. Since 2018, for example, the Aina Vao dispensary has become a reference centre in the region, illustrating the positive impact of this support. Activities have been expanded, with a greater emphasis on training, particularly through a university partnership and targeted initiatives with health centres. This dynamic is supported by the assignment of a volunteer in the field, who helps to develop essential skills while supporting the structures towards more autonomous management.
These developments bear witness to PSF Switzerland’s commitment to adapting its activities to meet local needs, while at the same time building the long-term capacity of healthcare workers.
